FOOT SOLDIERS
They are metal detectorists, uncovering the past, connecting with the present. Whether it is an artefact from 2000 years ago or a partefact, “that once was something and is now nothing”. They are a subculture of historical nerds and hobbyists who love nothing more than a good signal through the headphones.
Britain's cosmopolitan past makes it geographically unique in discovering finds from international origin. There is a profound level of respect to the farmers as owners of the land and in regards to those who walked it before.
This work reveals a social community of camaraderie and a genuine curiosity to what is yet to be unearthed. Often overlooked to be treasure hunting money seeking beach loners, whereas they are in fact archaeological foot soldiers, mapping our history.
