Ever so, when seated in any of the balconies your encompassing peripheral perspective leaves you with a feeling of grandeur. It is from the tradition that contemporary theatre developed, through which more blended forms of Queer focused performance emerged.

Knees Up took place in New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. A grade II listed building, the theatre has a long history dating back over 150 years. It has seen architectural transformations from well known architects from the late 19th century such as Charles John Phipps and Frank Matcham. Today it is one of few remaining architectural combinations of the iconic Phipps/Matcham mixed styles. Although several refurbishments have taken place since to accommodate modern theatre productions, original traits still exist. Hidden throughout the maze of staircases are the original ticket booth and several artworks can be seen if you keep your eyes out.
